Tomáš Hajíček: Everyone Has Freedom in Their Head

Tomáš Hajíček is one of the figures of the Czech heavy music scene who need little introduction. Frontman of the band Krucipüsk, a distinctive voice, uncompromising energy, and a man who, over the years both on stage and off it, has gone through his own story full of decisions, experiences, falls, comebacks, and perspective.
In this interview for Rebel Sound, we did not want to ask only about the band, concerts, or musical plans. We wanted to look deeper at the person standing behind the microphone, at his view of life, courage, freedom, humility, fans, and what it means to last in music for decades. Tomáš answers directly, without unnecessary flourishes, with his trademark irony and with the clear attitude of a man who knows that music is not just work, but a life journey.
The conversation also turned to new material from Krucipüsk, the upcoming EP V prdeli je tma, which, according to Tomáš, is meant to reflect the present times, human nature, irony, sarcasm, and perhaps even a bit of fun. The result is an interview in which roughness, honesty, humor, and life experience meet.
You have experienced success, falls, and comebacks. When you look at your life today as a book, which chapters would you consider the most important, and why?
The most important thing is health; the rest is something a person has to build for themselves.
Your path has not always been easy. Is there a period that transformed you as a person so deeply that, without it, you would not be who you are today?
I think the vast majority of people have gone through this, and artists in particular. At the age of 12, as an active footballer for Slovan Liberec, I went to a friend's place to listen to LP records, because his father had access to them from abroad. That affected me so strongly, including my friend's rehearsal with a band in a Liberec garage, that I decided to end my sports career and become a musician.
If you had to explain to a young musician in one long letter what it means to last for decades on the scene, what absolutely could not be missing from it?
You must love music unconditionally and put everything into it, including all your own and your family's finances.
People often talk about Tomáš Hajíček as a frontman. But what is Tomáš Hajíček like when the lights go out, the concert ends, and only ordinary life remains?
An introvert with artistic tendencies.
Was there ever a moment when you felt like giving everything up? What eventually convinced you to keep going?
I never had that, thank God.
Which life experiences taught you the most humility, and which, on the other hand, taught you healthy self-confidence?
The death of a loved one and, after a car accident, visits to the land of the dead.
Do you feel that a person becomes braver with age, or more cautious? How was it for you?
I do not think about my age in any special way, and caution is not my creed. I try to live and do everything fully, as much as I can.
Looking back, is there a decision that seemed like a mistake at the time, but time showed that it moved you in the right direction?
I do not know of one.
What questions would you like journalists to ask you more often, but that almost never come up?
Asking the right questions, and preparing for a high-quality professional interview, is the job of journalists. I simply answer them, and only them, with the patience that is my own.
What have fans taught you about people and about yourself?
As my grandmother and my mother taught me, people can be fun, but be careful and always check everything first. If people are decent, I have no problem with them.
If you could invite three personalities – living or dead – to one long dinner, who would you want to debate with for several hours, and why them?
Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Lemmy Kilmister, Clint Eastwood etc. It definitely would not be a boring evening.
What would you like people to remember first one day when they hear the name Tomáš Hajíček?
He lived well, made decent music, and was a laugh now and then.
At the end, one personal question: If you could leave future generations a single message about life, courage, and freedom, what would it be?
Everyone has freedom in their head. Be healthy, live well, and do not forget: Hierarchy, Respect, Decency, and Honor.
Krucipüsk has always gone its own way – what are your closest plans now, both personally and as a band, and how does the upcoming EP fit into that? What do you think fans will feel from it first – a return to the roots, another evolution, or a completely new direction?
I always try to do only things I enjoy. The EP "V prdeli je tma", which will be released on 1 November 2026, will, like all of Krucipüsk's work, be a reflection of the times and a capture of the current nature of human society, with a dose of irony, sarcasm, and hopefully a little fun as well.

The interview with Tomáš Hajíček shows that behind the distinctive voice, energy, and uncompromising face of Krucipüsk stands a man who takes life head-on, without unnecessary poses, but with clear values. His answers convey perspective, experience, humor, and the awareness that music only makes sense when a person does it fully and honestly.
Tomáš does not hide the fact that life also brings difficult moments, but at the same time he remains faithful to his own path. Whether he talks about freedom, respect, decency, honor, or new Krucipüsk material, he remains his honest, direct self, with a typical dose of irony. That is exactly how he comes across in this interview: no grand phrases, just the words of a man who has honestly lived out his place on the scene and in life.
