Obscene Extreme 2027 announces headliner GWAR and more bands

12/08/2026

Obscene Extreme, now heading into its 28th edition, announces the first bands. The first ten acts already include a headliner: American maniacs GWAR. The festival is also in intensive negotiations over a new venue.

There are 330 days left until hell breaks loose. Since the end of last year's edition, it has been known that GWAR will headline OEF 2027. Some were shocked at first, but this band ranks among the most dangerous spectacles you can encounter, not only in extreme music.

With their combination of crushing metal, dirty rock, absurd costumes, grotesque humor and hectoliters of fake blood, the Americans have defined what the word "show" can mean. Their performances are equal parts concert and theatrical sci-fi horror, complete with a full-scale alien invasion, and very few can boast a legacy as bizarre, influential and relentlessly entertaining as this horde.

On the Obscene Extreme 2027 stage, expect decapitations, dismemberment, political satire and enough carnage to satisfy even the most bloodthirsty festival maniacs.

Another band is a big deal for us, even though they already played OEF 10 years ago. The masked American quartet GHOUL terrorizes fans around the world with a crossover of thrash, death, grind and who knows what else, and will bring macabre theater wrapped in an extreme guise to the festival stage. It is time to welcome these graveyard demons back once again.

From the decaying underground of dirty London comes one of Albion's most brutal bands, GOREROTTED, who played one of the most unforgettable shows in OEF history back in 2002. They later split in 2014 under the name The Rotted, but have just announced their return to the stage! Fans of grindcore/death metal packed with obscene, extreme tempos and riffs need no introduction.

The king is dead, long live the prince! After the bitter end of Bolt Thrower, one of the finest bands in the death metal ranks, a huge void remained. Fortunately, following that sad breakup, a band formed in Hanover, Germany, taking its name from an EP by the British titans - SPEARHEAD! Their tribute to the immortal Bolt Thrower blew us away so hard at the spring Obscene Society Fest that we simply have to introduce them to you at OEF as well.

After five years, ESCUELA GRIND returns with a blast that knows no stylistic boundaries. The band combines hyperblast passages with death-metal interludes and hardcore explosiveness. Frontwoman Katerina delivers that explosiveness brilliantly too, with pure vocal dynamite in her throat.

Want a mystery box packed with technique, brutality and unrestrained fun? There is no need to head to Boston for that, because Boston is coming to you. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome the technical brutalists GORATORY, whose ranks are filled with seasoned veterans!

TO VIOLENTLY VOMIT will ride a similar wave, turning our long-standing dream into reality. As is obvious from the logo and photo, TVV are the descendants of the total BDM cult Disgorge. Disgorge themselves never played OEF, but the best things are worth waiting for. From Disgorge we have Riff Wizard President Diego Sanchez, while the cult tracks from ranial Impalement, She Lay Gutted, Consume the Forsaken  and Parallels of Infinite Torture  remain the same anthems as ever. No weak note, no time to ease off, let alone copy anyone. The time has come to pass on the legends' message - the brutal world has never seen another band like this!

And now we travel to Japan. We love the country's extreme music scene, and the grindcore projectile 324 has been on our OEF radar for a long time. Although they were formed 30 years ago, there are not many chances to see them in Europe despite their active touring (with Napalm Death, Nasum, Corrupted, etc.). We are therefore incredibly happy that it has finally worked out! But 324 are not just blastbeats: they also deliver catchy riffs interspersed with occasional slowdowns into sludge territory, all performed as is so often the case with bands from the Land of the Rising Sun - with one hundred percent commitment.

French blasphemers GRAVEKVLT will unleash absolute filth from the hellish metal maw of the '80s. A great mix of old-school punk, black and death metal with a heavy dose of rock'n'roll, enormous forward drive and a chilling atmosphere that gives their music another infernal dimension. UGH!

And finally, we have great news for everyone who loves proper dancing and bubbling vocals: for the first time in Obscene history, the cult German goregrind toxic wave PLASMA is coming to the festival!

Obscene Extreme Festival is a unique phenomenon that has long since gone far beyond the boundaries of a city, district, region, country and even continent, as its organizer Čurby has already taken it to fans in Mexico, Japan, Australia, Canada and Indonesia.
