Millennials, GenZ or genCO? The band Civilní Obrana comes out with a new album and announces a concert in Prague's Lucerna

The band Civilní Obrana releases their new studio album, genCO, which comes as a significant step forward in the band's development and as a confirmation of their musical versatility. After more than eighteen years on the scene, hundreds of concerts and four previous albums, they are coming up with a very diverse new album that is definitely not boring.

"We are not a band that would limit ourselves to one genre, on the contrary, we try to connect as many musical directions as possible at our concerts," says the band's frontman Marek Calík. genCO thus blends elements of punk rock, pop-punk, pop rock, rock'n'roll and others. "In the lyrics you will find funny, ticklish and humorous situations, which we like, but in other songs we touch on the harsh reality of contemporary life across generations. This idea led us to the album title. We did not write the album just for girls, boys, old or young. It is an album for everyone across generations, in whom a wild love for music slumbers," adds Marek Calík.

In addition to completely new songs, the album also includes several proven singles, which have already had several million streams. In particular, Drinky mi podávejte řetězem, Vlasta or the hit Já si tě vypiplám are worth mentioning. Just before the album, a new single Vyzenovanj was also released, and the band also presented its fans with a video clip. "After a long time, I wrote something other than a joke and I have to say that I am really, sincerely excited about this single," says the singer.

"I'm sure everyone from school, work or a group of would-be friends knows it when a toxic person gets a hold of you and you just can't get rid of it. It's something terrible. I've experienced it many times in my life and this time I had to shout it out to the world with this song," adds Calík.

Among the more thematically serious songs on the genCO album, we would like to mention Spolu napořad, which was created to celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary of Civilní Obrany. "The lyrics were written by a long-time friend of the band Lukáš Dvořáček; the producers were Jan Steinsdörfer and Lukáš Pavlík from the band Chinaski," the band mentions. The band says about the track Nejsem OK: "Even though you know that what you see on social media is not always what it seems, you still sometimes feel inferior and frustrated by the idea that you are the worst in the world. You will find yourself in the lyrics of this song. The musical part of the song is deliberately cut out from the 80's and 90's, when these topics could not bother anyone at all."

But because anyone who has visited their energetic show must know that "They are for every f***...," as the band themselves say, humor clearly prevails on the album. Whether it is the song Bonboniéra, which must be appreciated by everyone who has already succumbed to the charm of this party. Or it is still waiting for them, for example, with the honest energy of rock legends like ZZ Top in the song DYCKY RIZZ, in which the "puffed up dude" reaches for modern slang.

One of the strongest sides of Civilní Obrana is definitely their live performances, which are worth experiencing. This foursome consisting of Marek Calík, Pavel Neumann, Pepa Semerád and Miloslav Procházka will win you over and won't let you go. At the album launch of genCO in Prague's Lucerna Music Bar, the band announced the date of their biggest concert to date in the large hall of Lucerna, which is November 14, 2026.

The band's album Civilní Obrana - genCO was released digitally on November 12, 2025.
