Max Cavalera: Artificial intelligence will never replace the human soul in metal

Frontman of Soulfly and former Sepultura leader Max Cavalera spoke out strongly against the growing attempts to incorporate artificial intelligence into music creation in a new interview for the RRBG podcast. According to him, AI may be able to imitate many things, but it will never replace the real chemistry between musicians.
Cavalera points above all to human collaboration as the key element that no algorithm can create. He compares it to writing songs together with personalities such as Dino Cazares, Chino Moreno, or Tom Araya — it is precisely these human interactions, he says, that give rise to powerful and authentic songs. Artificial intelligence can at best imitate such music, but it can never convey the emotions, passion, and energy that naturally emerge between people.
At the same time, Cavalera does not take an extreme stance of completely rejecting technology. He acknowledges that AI may have its place in certain areas if used sensibly. However, he emphasizes that the very essence of music — the human soul, heart, and personal experience — remains irreplaceable.
Meanwhile, Soulfly are preparing to hit the road on tour alongside GWAR and King Parrot, where, according to Cavalera, audiences will hear exactly what no artificial intelligence can ever program — raw, live, and authentic metal.
