It took the Brno-based band Liquid Jesus eleven long years to finally get around to releasing their debut album. Following an EP and several standalone singles, Night Wars has finally arrived. Ten tracks, roughly half an hour of music, and a hefty dose of grunge, punk and metal. The album was recorded at Devos Studio in Vyškov.

Liquid Jesus are certainly no newcomers, though. The band was formed in 2015 and has dozens of live shows under its belt. "We've played alongside bands such as Clawfinger, Dog Eat Dog and Cocotte Minute. In 2023, we also had the chance to play at the Rock for People festival," says guitarist Lucas Shishowski.

The current lineup consists of vocalist Martin Hoffmann, guitarist Daniel Krbek, bassist Lucas Shishowski and drummer David Černý.

The album Night Wars is built around a combination of heavy rock'n'roll, hardcore, punk rock and metal. Aggressive guitar riffs and hard-hitting drums meet melodic passages, with fast punk rock tracks alternating with heavier hardcore sections and rock'n'roll choruses. The lyrics explore various kinds of night wars – from alcohol-fuelled escapades to long, sleepless hours spent pondering life.

The album was preceded by the singles Rotten Town and Skate or Die. The icing on the cake is the single The Spirit's On, which is about a certain bar in Brno known as a "snack" bar. "Šnek Bar is basically the Keith Richards of bars. Much younger and fresher pubs are slowly fading away, while Šnek Bar keeps breathing on, now for more than three decades. Against all odds," adds the song's author, Shishowski. With Night Wars, the band builds on its sound and continues to develop it across ten diverse tracks, while remaining unmistakably true to its signature identity.

Liquid Jesus scheduled the album launch for the last Friday in October, kicking off Halloween weekend. At their home venue, Melodka, they held the second edition of Liquid Night. Alongside the celebrating band, the stage also welcomed Fat Summer, Hadi v letadle, Flashbeck and Total Punishment.

The album launch itself was suitably unconventional: the record was christened with a bottle of liquid labelled "shark piss". The ceremony was carried out by Lukáš Prskavec and Tomáš Knoth from the opening act Hadi v letadle.

You can listen to Night Wars here.

Liquid Jesus will also perform live on 15 November at the Barrák Club in Ostrava, where they will perform as the opening act for American band Murphy's Law.
