KONVENT OPEN THE GATE TO DARKNESS. FIRESKY PUSHES THEIR DEATH DOOM INTO DEEPER AND BOLDER TERRITORY

Danish four piece KONVENT return after four years with a new studio album, Firesky. The band's third full length record will be released on November 6, 2026 through Napalm Records and follows Call Down the Sun from 2022. This time, however, the band are not limiting themselves to the sound that established their strong position within the death doom scene. The new material opens the door to stronger black metal influences, longer compositions and an even darker atmosphere.

Firesky needs only five tracks for KONVENT to demonstrate how significantly their music has evolved. The individual compositions are considerably longer than those on the previous records, with most approaching the ten minute mark. The band do not use length as an empty display of ambition. Instead, the songs are given space to grow slowly, shift their mood and build tension that can transform within moments from almost hypnotic calm into a crushing wall of sound.

The album opens with Exorcise, a track that serves as a clear statement for the band's new era. It begins slowly and brutally, firmly rooted in doom metal, before dramatically changing its dynamics during the final third. Rikke Emilie List works not only with the deep vocal delivery familiar from the band's previous material, but also with sharper screams that underline the new direction of KONVENT.

The lyrical side of Firesky also responds to the world around us. When introducing the album, the band explained that it was impossible to ignore current political and social developments, particularly decisions that they believe restrict the fundamental rights of women and LGBTQ people. Exorcise directly grows from a sense of frustration and suffocating helplessness while watching legislation that the band members regard as sexist and transphobic. The new album is therefore not only a journey into darkness, but also an expression of anger and a desire for a more compassionate and empathetic world.

The second track, Scorning, approaches tension in a different way. Softer drums and guitars gradually create space for deep vocals, while the individual layers expand as the song progresses. KONVENT demonstrate that extreme music does not always need to rush. Slowness and the ability to let individual ideas breathe are among the strongest weapons on the entire record.

The longest track on the album is the approximately twelve minute In the Unknown. It pulls the listener back into a considerably darker space and reveals a more progressive approach to songwriting. The band work with gradual development, contrasts and constant transformation without losing the crushing weight that has been one of the defining characteristics of their music from the beginning.

The title track Firesky brings another shift. Cleaner passages emerge through the heavy and clouded sound, appearing like brief flashes of light within an otherwise deeply dark composition. Mai Soon Young Øvlisen makes a guest appearance on the track. The following instrumental Postludium flows naturally from the title track and closes the album.

The current lineup of KONVENT consists of Rikke Emilie List on vocals, Amira Liv Hernan on guitar and backing vocals, Julie Simonsen on drums and Heidi Withington Brink on bass. The album was produced and recorded by Jacob Bredahl at Antfarm Studios, mixed by Bredahl at Dead Rat Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The cover artwork was created by Nona Limmen, while the photography was handled by Martin Goltermann.

Firesky follows Call Down the Sun from 2022 and the debut album Puritan Masochism from 2020. The first two records already established KONVENT as one of the most distinctive names in contemporary European death doom. According to the information released so far, however, the third album has no intention of simply repeating a proven formula. The band experiment more boldly with black metal and allow the songs to develop into larger and more layered compositions.

That willingness to move forward could prove essential to Firesky. KONVENT retain the weight, slowness and bleak atmosphere on which they built their reputation, while expanding their own musical territory at the same time. The five tracks are therefore not intended to feel like a short record, but rather a continuous journey into the darkest corners, from which the listener gradually finds a way back towards the light.

Firesky will be released on November 6, 2026 through Napalm Records.
