Hell, Sweat, and a Whole Lot of Heart: Heřmaňák Fest Showed What a True Rock Family Looks Like

28/06/2026

Organizing a music festival these days is something of a daredevil act. Bureaucracy keeps growing, the demands of both bands and fans are increasing, and above it all hangs the worst factor of them all – Mother Nature. The organizers of this year's Heřmaňák Fest, held on June 20 in Dolní Heřmanice, could write novels about it. The forecast for that day promised nothing less than hell on earth.

The journey to the Vysočina region was quite a challenge for our Rebel Sound editorial team. The thermometer showed a scorching 37°C, and the air felt almost impossible to breathe. Then came a series of severe thunderstorm warnings. During the drive, the temperature dropped to 20°C, and the sky turned dark. We arrived only after the worst of the "chaos" had already unfolded, which the organizers and the first visitors had to endure. Strong winds raged, torrents of rain poured from the sky, and everyone with a free hand helped hold down the tents to keep them from being blown away. Water also got into the equipment, giving the sound engineers some extremely difficult moments.

The beginning of the festival looked anything but promising. But where others might have panicked, skilled Czech hands, tremendous faith, and sheer determination stepped in. The entire situation turned around by 180 degrees.

When Music Defeats Misfortune

As soon as the first notes from Street 69 rang out from the stage, nobody cared about the remaining raindrops anymore. The gratitude of the fans that the event had not been cancelled was almost tangible, and smiles spread across the entire venue. They were followed by Jacker's, who quickly warmed the audience up. There was even a surprise when, during one of the songs, the band's manager joined the performance, making more than a few fans laugh.

Despite the initial delay caused by the weather, there was still plenty of time to grab a drink, enjoy some excellent food, or browse the rich selection of merchandise stands. Afterwards, Gate Crasher took over the stage. They left nobody indifferent, brought the crowd to a boiling point, and perfectly prepared the ground for the evening's headliner.

That headliner was none other than the legendary Doga. Fans welcomed the rock veterans exactly as they deserved. Izzi and his band kicked off their set with a brand-new single before delivering one proven anthem after another with the kind of energy that works as reliably as Swiss clockwork at every show. The entire musical marathon was then brought to a stylish close by the local band STARTi.

A Festival Without Masks and With Its Heart in the Right Place

The musical lineup was excellent, but what truly makes Heřmaňák Fest special lies much deeper beneath the surface. In today's commercial world, where profit often comes first, the attitude of the organizers was nothing short of inspiring. Different region, different customs? Perhaps. As a Rebel Sound journalist, I may have been in an unfamiliar region, but from the very first minute I felt at home. Among friends.

No masks, no fake friendliness. The organizers genuinely cared about how you were doing, whether you needed anything, and whether everything was alright. Their kindness and sincerity were genuinely touching. These people don't organize a festival to fill their own pockets—they do it out of love for music and for people.

And as everyone knows, rockers have big hearts. The entire event also carried a beautiful charitable message. Visitors had the opportunity to donate to a good cause, with all collected funds going to Centrum Kociánka, specifically its Březejc facility. Looking back on everything, you realize that Heřmaňák Fest is far more than just another music festival. It's a gathering of people who love life, love music, and always have enough room in their hearts to help others.

Memories That Stay With You (And Your Stomach)

I simply have to mention one more thing that I'm still dreaming about. The festival goulash was absolutely outstanding, and my taste buds still remember it! Just like every single member of the organizing team, who welcomed us with open arms as if we had known each other for years, and every fan who generously shared their smiles and positive energy.

If there's one festival I genuinely want to return to next year with all my heart, it's Dolní Heřmanice. It's not just about great bands—it's about the people who can create the feeling of one huge family, even if you've travelled from the other side of the country.

A message to everyone who missed it this year: start following Heřmaňák Fest on social media and don't hesitate for a second next year. Because travelling to experience great music in a place where you instantly become part of a family is something you simply shouldn't miss.

Thank you, Heřmaňák, it was unforgettable!
