FIVE O'CLOCK TEA ARE SEARCHING FOR THE SHORES. ON THEIR NEW SINGLE, THEY RETURN TO THEIR OWN DREAMS AND VALUES
FIVE O'CLOCK TEA present their new single and music video Břehy. Following the optimistic Barevný světy, the band now turns its focus inward, opening up themes of searching for one's own direction, childhood dreams, and the paths in life along which we can easily find ourselves carried away by the current. Břehy is also the first single and music video the band has introduced with its new line-up.
FIVE O'CLOCK TEA continue their new creative chapter. While the previous single Barevný světy encouraged listeners to look for the good around them and not let the world turn grey, Břehy approaches a similar theme from the opposite direction. This time, the search for happiness and the meaning of life takes on a much more introspective and darker form. At the heart of the song is an imaginary conversation between a child's soul and its adult self.
"A child sees their future simply. They have dreams and a clear idea of how they want to live one day. But as an adult, you may realise that the 'current' of life has carried you somewhere completely different and that instead of following your own ideals, you have spent years being guided by circumstances, other people's expectations, or simply by what is generally considered to be the right thing to do," says frontman Tomáš Chrudimský.
This is where the song's central metaphor of searching for the shores comes from. The protagonist realises where they have allowed themselves to be carried and tries to break free from the current, finding a way back to what once truly mattered to them. "The shores are therefore not a specific place, but rather a return to one's own dreams and values and perhaps also an opportunity to start again," the singer adds.
Another important motif in the lyrics is that of the "three hearts". This is not a love triangle, but three different life stories belonging to the same person. The first belongs to the child and their dreams, the second to a life spent being carried along by the current of circumstances, and the third to a new path that a person has the chance to begin writing the moment they realise that the direction they have been following was never truly their own.
Břehy is also the first single and music video by FIVE O'CLOCK TEA to feature the band's new line-up. Drummer Petr "Pejsy" Hozák and guitarist Pavel "Žabis" Žabka have joined the band, with Žabka having previously played in Phatlip and with the Gaia Mesiah crew. "With this new line-up, everything works incredibly well for us, both musically and personally, and we all hope we never have to take off these band 'rose-tinted glasses'," agree FIVE O'CLOCK TEA.
The music video was created under the direction of Petr "Vince" Havlíček from KH Filmin, who was responsible for directing, cinematography, editing, and colour grading. The outdoor scenes were filmed in the Český ráj region, while the interior sequences were shot in industrial premises in Turnov, provided to the band by their friends from Sofistica. The screenplay was written by the band themselves. FIVE O'CLOCK TEA recorded the single at Streetsound studio, where Martin "Tefras" Tefr handled the recording, mixing, and mastering.
