Finnish melodic metal band Blackment's final single from the upcoming sophomore album was born out of a minor existential crisis

The Finnish diverse melodic modern metal band Blackment releases their second studio album Pandemonium Portrait on September 18th. Now they have released the final single named Pulsar from the upcoming album.

"I remember my first rehearsals, and I knew I was really looking forward to performing the vocal parts I'd just recorded. My mind was racing with ideas about how Muse, RATM, and Diablo could be combined in a fun way with my own style for that particular song. I noticed that performing this gave me a kind of energy boost, and it still manages to surprise me during rehearsals. Somehow, I always pause and become aware of the present moment. Nothing is certain." tells the singer Sami Vuorenheimo.

Allan gave me a song to write lyrics for, and I listened to it on repeat with my eyes closed. I thought about what images and thoughts it evoked in me, keeping the theme in mind. Pulsar was born out of a minor existential crisis."

'Pulsar' takes the listener on a journey through the mysteries of the universe and illustrates the endless possibilities as well as the things the human mind cannot comprehend. Inspired by Sigmund Freud, I came up with the idea for a story in which the protagonist moves forward like a ship heading toward a lighthouse, toward the light of the pulsar. The idea that death could be a goal for humans fascinated me at the time. This evolved into a magnificent story about life and its continuation (or renewal) into the next phase." Sami continues.

Blackment is a melodic metal band that was founded in 2014 at Hyvinkää, Finland. Their debut album Plains of Oblivion was released in autumn 2022. The album has gotten airplay in various European countries. In addition, the band was nominated for the newcomer of the year 2022 by Kaaoszine (a Finnish music news website). In 2023-2024 Blackment released three singles Pariah, Ghost in the Machine and Freedom Fall. The band also competed as a semifinalist in the Wacken Metal Battle Finland competition.

Over the years Blackment has developed a recognizable sound and style including catchy melodies, tricky yet punchy guitars, groovy drums and bass, atmospheric synths and a wide range of vocals with unique voice. The six-piece band has been praised for their energetic live shows and they have performed for example at Heavy Metal Heart Festival and at Semifinal club in Helsinki.
