DAVE MUSTAINE: Health Limits Have Opened the Way for MEGADETH’s Farewell

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine recently spoke openly about health problems that naturally led to the decision to close one of the most significant chapters in metal history. According to Mustaine, it wasn't a sudden break or dramatic choice, but a process that gradually emerged while working on Megadeth's upcoming eponymous album.

The key factors were primarily Dupuytren's contracture and advanced arthritis in his hands, which increasingly complicate his guitar playing. "I didn't say I want to quit immediately. I just realized that I don't know how much longer I can do this at 100 percent," Mustaine explains. Surgery is being postponed – he wants to complete a farewell tour first and give fans a full goodbye.

Mustaine also emphasizes that the band is still capable of finishing the final album at a high standard. However, the combination of physical limits and the demanding studio process sparked a discussion about the future, which he subsequently addressed with management, bandmates, and family. The result is the announced farewell tour This Was Our Life, set to begin in 2026.

Good news for Czech fans: Megadeth will stop in the Czech Republic as part of the tour – they will perform at the Rock for People festival in Hradec Králové (Park 360) on June 6, 2026.

It seems the end of Megadeth won't be sudden, but dignified, deliberate, and above all, played to the fullest – just as befits one of the most influential thrash metal bands in history. 🤘
