Brno’s Sono shook to its core: Strange Kind Of Women in action

Brno's Sono Center shook to its foundations on Saturday, January 31. After some time, the all-female tribute band Strange Kind Of Women, paying homage to the legendary Deep Purple, returned to the city. From the moment people entered the hall, it was clear that an exceptional evening awaited. The audience spanned all generations – veterans and young rock fans alike.
The club was packed to capacity, and tension hung in the air – everyone was expecting a solid dose of hard rock. The area in front of the stage was for standing, with seating further back. Balconies on the first and second floors offered a calmer vantage point over the stage.
The evening was opened by the Brno-based band Škaredá holka, who took the stage shortly after seven. This group, with a history stretching back to the 1980s, blends blues and hard rock and approached their set directly and energetically. Songs like Zlatokop Joe, Rocket, 33, Osedlaná, Nemám šajn, and Cadillac filled the room.
As eight o'clock approached, the hall went dark, and the members of Strange Kind Of Women stepped onto the stage – Chiara Cotugno on drums, Margherita Gruden on keyboards, Paola Zadra on bass, guitarist Silvia Zaniboni as a special guest, and lead singer Ronnie Grace. The first notes of Stormbringer filled the hall with energy, and within seconds it was clear that the audience was in for an emotionally charged and unforgettable rock experience.
Ronnie Grace commanded the audience from the very first moment – her voice handled fierce hard rock riffs as effortlessly as soft, emotive passages. The setlist was packed with classics like Black Night, Lay Down, Stay Down, Highway Star, Mistreated, When, Blind Man Cries, and, of course, Strange Kind Of Woman. The evening also featured powerful instrumental moments: Margherita Gruden's breathtaking organ solo, Silvia Zaniboni's guitar creations, and Chiara Cotugno's drum solo.
The highlight of the evening, of course, was the immortal Smoke on the Water, sung along with the entire audience. To close, the energetic Hush brought the evening to an exhilarating finish, and a long, well-deserved applause rewarded the band for a fantastic show.
Strange Kind Of Women in Brno proved that they are more than just a tribute band. They are a fully-fledged rock formation, capable of putting their own soul and immense energy into every song. Thanks are also due to Škaredá holka, the organizers, promoters, and everyone who helped make the evening possible.
