ABRUPT DEMISE, MACERATION and Four More Bands Added to the MetalGate Czech Death Fest 2027 Line-Up
Czech Death Fest is back, and the festival's second batch of bands revolves around its core genre. Expect a brutal assault from the Netherlands, a tribute to the Scandinavian sound from Denmark, plus both modern and old-school death metal.
In the previous update, KATAKLYSM were announced as one of the festival's headliners, alongside GUTALAX and the festival's organisers TORTHARRY. Now we're adding more backbone to the festival's death metal line-up, making sure that every branch of this rich genre gets its due.
From the Netherlands come ABRUPT DEMISE, whose brutal assault is packed with crushing riffs and uncompromising grind-fuelled speed that will hammer you into the ground with sheer energy. Denmark's MACERATION, meanwhile, take a more melodic approach and represent the raw Scandinavian sound. It's worth mentioning that their long-awaited debut featured none other than the revered Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity and countless other projects). Both bands are made up of seasoned musicians, and both of their appearances were washed out by bad weather last year, so these shows are essentially a second chance.
Now for the homegrown scene. Technical death metal with an emphasis on atmosphere and dynamic twists, without simply copying whatever happens to be trending, will be brought to the festival by INCEPTION OF FALL. This is the kind of music you rarely come across on the Czech scene. Their line-up features guitarist Ondra from GODLESS TRUTH, as well as vocalist Adam from SWEPT INTO DECAY, who will be pulling double duty at the festival as his other band will be joining the bill too. Their hard-hitting, uncompromising blackened downtempo deathcore sound, forged from honest Ostrava steel, has earned the band a reputation on the modern core scene and landed them a deal with US label Seek & Strike, who have just released their EP Body//Gold.
The other two bands are united by tradition – and perhaps a shared love of the old school. Celebrating their 30th anniversary next year, POPPY SEED GRINDER will bring an explosive blend of brutal death metal and uncompromising hardcore. So if you're into DYING FETUS and HATEBREED, you already know exactly where you need to be when they hit the stage. The final band announced are SCABBARD, pioneers of the Czech thrash/death scene. Back in the 1990s, they were "joined at the hip" with KRABATHOR and toured alongside VADER and DESTRUCTION, before tragedy struck with the death of their guitarist. They returned to the scene in 2017, and later saw original vocalist Petr Vavřík rejoin the band. At MGCDF 2027, they will also unveil their upcoming new release, their sixth album, Čekárna na smrt.
